Create the Life You Imagine ~ February 2019
My Soul Wants to Lead
“What a liberation to realize that the "voice in my head" is not who I am. Who am I then? The one who sees that."
~ Eckhart Tolle
In January we started exploring the operating principles of our self-system so that we can better understand and navigate our life journey. We set off with the awareness that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. The purpose of life is simply to remember who we really are and to grow in our ability to express our Divine nature through all of the experiences we have in human form. We talked about seeing your human form as a vehicle and I invited you to notice that you have two operating systems at work at all times: the small self and the Soul Self, and we have been practicing listening in on these two parts to notice the difference in how they think about life and how they operate and function.
Remember that the small self sees life as a survival course. Most of its energy is spent ruminating about the misfortunes, losses and disappointments of the past, or anxiously anticipating the dangers and disasters yet to come. It worries about what other people think, is obsessively self-critical, and gets mired in measuring its own status and satisfaction by ceaselessly comparing itself to others. It braces itself against the experiences of life with struggle and resistance, and is likely to believe that life is punishing and unfair. Whenever we become anxious, lonely, stressed or despairing, we can be assured that the small self has control of our vehicle.
The Soul Self lives only in the present moment and is always in connection with the stream of Love that is the operating principal of the Universe. Some people call this energy stream God, Divine, Spirit or Source. Whatever name we give it, we have all had transcendent moments when we have touched this energy. It is our Soul Self that calls each of us into spiritual awakening and that gently invites us to change the way we are living. The Soul Self knows that we are never alone and looks for the spark of Divine presence in every person and every experience of life. When we shift our awareness to the level of the Soul Self, regardless of what is happening in our lives, we experience the gifts of that presence in all of life. We are kinder and more patient with ourselves and others, and we approach the events and experiences of life with more acceptance, compassion, inspiration, gratitude, happiness, hope, peace, love, laughter and joy.
It is a maxim of the new age that our thoughts create our reality. So as we move through life in our human vehicle, we have to intentionally choose which operating system we are going to activate if we want to change our reality. Since our small self is our default system, when the experiences of life make us uncomfortable it jumps in to make suggestions. As we have learned, our small self will likely surmise that life is difficult and dangerous and it will give us all sorts of bad advice on how we should try to fix our feelings of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. If we try to change our life through the level of the small self, we are generally just rearranging the furniture. It persuades us that we need more things, a better house, a new job or a new car, or it convinces us that life won’t work out for us, so we should just hunker down, protect ourselves, addictively work, eat, drink, shop, exercise, binge watch or game, and wait for the other shoe to drop. Even if it gets the new things it seeks, it will quickly create the same pattern of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. In short, if the small self is in charge, we will not experience sustainable change because it cannot change its programming about the way it sees the world.
It is only from the awareness of our Soul Self that we have the power to create real and lasting change in the way we are living. In order to activate this higher operating system, we have to intentionally practice shifting our awareness to the level of our Soul Self. If we look at our lives through the awareness of our Soul Self, we will discover the beauty and joy present in every moment and every experience, and from this awareness we can make choices that activate our deepest aspirations and our highest possibilities. Our Soul Self is always present and ready to support us, but we have to learn to quiet the voice of the small self and to open the channel to our Soul.
The goal of the spiritual journey is to fully engage the Soul Self as the operating system of our life in order to allow our human vehicle to fully express the love, light and power of our Soul. This requires that we become more conscious of the voices operating inside us and that we pay less and less attention to the voice of the small self. As we move through the rest of this month, we will look more deeply at the patterns of energy in our human vehicle, and how to clear out the programming of the small self so that our Soul Self can take the wheel.
Wishing you the blessings and light of the soul, as you create the life you imagine.

Stepping Stones:
The first step of shifting to that higher operating system is to just start choosing some new thoughts. Here is another song from my sister Kate to inspire you this week as you make that shift. If you open the channel to just one new thought from your Soul Self, it will slowly create a waterfall. Here are a few words from the song, but go to my Products Page and scroll down to the Ready CD to listen for free to the full track:
Just One Step
What if you took just one step
One new thought starts it all
One drop starts a waterfall
I don’t want to wait any more
What am I waiting for
I don’t want to wait anymore
I want to reach for more
I don’t want to wait any more
What am I waiting for
Just one step today and I’ll be on my way
Do you know how good life can be
Change your thoughts to love and you’ll see
It takes one seed to become a tree
It’s that easy
Just one step today
One new thought starts today
Just one step today
And I’ll be on my way
